About the Course
In the first year, you will develop your understanding of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at an advanced level. You will also complete a unit called ‘Science in Society’ that examines the roles that science plays in the modern world, current scientific developments and how scientific ideas are communicated. This year one content is assessed by external exams. The second year is coursework based. You will conduct extended scientific investigations, developing skills in presenting and analysing results. There is an environmental studies project with lots of scope for outdoor fieldwork. There is also a forensic biology topic which examines how forensic scientists collect and analyse evidence from crime scenes.
Future Prospects
This course is a stepping stone to higher education, degree and professional development programmes as well as being a direct route into employment. Typical subjects that students with this qualification have gone on to study include Nursing, Physiotherapy, Conservation, Sport Science, Ecology, Forensic Science and Pharmacy.
