About the Course

Equivalent to 1 A Level, this course provides you with a broad understanding of working in the Healthcare and Social Care sector.
You will be assessed by two exam units (amounting to 40% of the course). Topics include equality, diversity, rights and understanding current laws in health and social care settings. Biological knowledge and anatomy is learnt in relation to twelve major diseases or conditions of the body.

The four coursework units (amounting to 60% of the course) are

based around the topics of Mental Health, Person-centred Care, Sexual Health, Pregnancy, Nutrition and Lifestyle.  In each case students put themselves into the role of a professional and consider the impact of professional practice on their service users.

Future Prospects

This qualification is ideal for anyone who is interested in developing their knowledge of both human health and development and the health and social care sector.  It prepares you for a wide range of careers and higher education courses such as nursing, midwifery, speech therapy, social work, teaching or the emergency services.  
The skills that you will develop include:

Good  communication

Time management Independent learning.
All of these skills are attractive to both universities and employers alike.
