You will learn about the changing awareness of crime and how the public perception of crime is formed. In Unit 2 you will have the opportunity to investigate and evaluate different criminological theories (i.e. Why do people commit crimes?) and will get to apply these to specific crimes/criminals. In the ‘Crime Scene to Courtroom’ unit you will develop the skills necessary to analyse evidence, review cases and evaluate whether a verdict of the court is safe and just. The final unit allows you to consider how society controls crime by looking at themes such as punishment, social controls on crime/criminals and evaluating how successful society is in dealing with crime.
Future Prospects: This course is for those considering a career in law, the criminal justice system or careers associated with social policy, education and psychology.
